Dolores Huerta

Although most people identify César Chávez as the leader of the Chicano Civil Rights movement, few are aware that he had a female partner, Dolores Huerta. Together they co-founded the United Farm Workers Association (UFWA) in 1962 and directed several boycotts including, a multi-year boycott of grapes. They unified farm workers, negotiated labor contracts with farmers and businessmen and encouraged Congress to pass the Agricultural Labor Relations Act in 1975, which protected the rights of farmers to unionize.

TPS announces new STEMM academies

Owens Community College Board of Trustees selects Dr. Robinson as 7th president

PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP, Ohio, April 11, 2018: Following a five-month nationally-advertised search, the board of trustees for Owen Community College has named Steve Robinson, Ph.D. as the institution’s new president. The appointment was announced following the board’s meeting held on campus today.


Obesity is common in the United States.  Over 36% of adults are obese.   African Americans have the highest rates of obesity followed by Hispanics (42.5%).  Obesity is more common from ages 40 to 59.   Obesity is a true epidemic in the United States.
